Amanda Bishop has been empowering the minds of all budding linguists, young and old, for over a decade. Creating a relaxed environment for learning French and Spanish, any desired goal becomes inevitable.

It all started with an exchange in Spain, and a holiday to France, and now students come from nearby communities for Amanda’s 1-to-1 sessions, with some connecting on Zoom from far and wide. I would consider my approach to teaching as slightly unorthodox, as I look to avoid any classroom-style setting, where students can take in more through the relaxed, comforting nature of my lessons.

Whether you’re in primary school, anxiously preparing for your GCSE’s, or an adult who simply wants to learn the language conversationally, my approach towards teaching will not only help you achieve any desired grades, but will guarantee that learning a language is enjoyable. As it should be.

Heading to secondary and think a foreign language may help somewhere along the line? Or perhaps your child has shown an interest in learning a language. Either way, Amanda has over 10 years of working with children on the language-learning journey, guiding them alongside their schooling system - ensuring no child is left behind.

Took Spanish as an option, or lumbered with French as a GCSE? Whether you’re coming to me as someone who jut can’t grasp verb-endings, or someone who just hates the language, not only will you come away with a new light on language learning, but you’ll be helped tremendously to reaching your target grade. I have lots of experience with all different exam boards, meaning your child will remain consistent with in-school teachings, and what will show up in the exam.

Adults

Frequent traveller to Spain, or just want to pick up a new skill? My tutoring for adults adopts a far more conversational approach, offering 30 minutes or an hour of full conversation in the language (depending on ability). The focus here is more colloquial, and how you’d chat with a local salesman or waiter, rather than getting you through an exam with what the examiners want to hear.

“I know it’s tricky trying to teach an unmotivated not naturally linguistic child, and I am eternally grateful for your perseverance, flexibility and just overall loveliness. Phoebe still wants to come to you despite ‘hating’ Spanish - and that’s a testament to you”
